The Story of King Midas

King Midas was a wealthy king who loved gold more than anything else. One day, he was granted a wish by the god Dionysus. Midas wished that everything he touched would turn to gold.

At first, he was delighted. Trees, rocks, furniture, and flowers all became solid gold with a single touch. But soon he realized his mistake. When he tried to eat or drink, his food and water turned to gold. Worst of all, when he hugged his beloved daughter, she was transformed into a golden statue.

Heartbroken, Midas begged Dionysus to take the gift away. The god told him to wash in the river Pactolus River. When Midas did, the magical power left him, and everything returned to normal. From that day on, he valued family and happiness more than riches.

Moral: Greed can bring misery, and true happiness comes from the people we love, not from wealth.
