A Serious Reminder
I understand that everyone has their own beliefs and opinions. However, having those beliefs does not give anyone the right to force them onto me, pressure me into agreeing, or disrespect me because I choose not to participate in certain conversations.
Last night, I was put in a situation involving comments and opinions about a certain topic that made me extremely uncomfortable. I made it clear that I did not want to be part of that conversation, and instead of that boundary being respected, I was met with an absolutely atrocious comment directed toward me.
If I ever had to pick the worst experience I have ever had on ePal, it would truly be this one.
I was genuinely hurt and disturbed by the situation, especially after I had already made it clear that I was uncomfortable.
You are free to believe what you want to believe, but that does not give you the right to force those beliefs onto me, expect me to share them, or treat me horribly because I choose not to.
I do not expect everyone I meet to think the same way I do. I simply expect my boundaries to be respected when I make it clear that a conversation is making me uncomfortable.
