two days ago i had such a lovely conversation about superman just being a boy from kansas

we talked about how he can be this incredibly powerful being and still choose to live as a normal civilian, and how much restraint that must take. he could so easily put himself above everyone else, but instead he chooses to be kind and be the better person.

we also got into some of the sillier parts of him, like his little remarks about santa and how he wraps his presents in lead so he can’t accidentally see what’s inside. i love when characters like that are allowed to just be silly and ordinary.

i was also told about his interaction with the hitman hero in gotham, who was supposed to kill someone but ended up going home after seeing the man hug his daughter. apparently the conversation he had with superman stuck with him enough to make him stop and think about what he was actually doing.

then somehow we ended up talking about martian manhunter discovering humanity and the christmas spirit too. all these different stories kept circling back to the same little idea of choosing to be better, even when nobody is forcing you to.

it really touched me. maybe being a hero isn’t always about what you’re capable of doing, but what you choose to do when you could have done otherwise. ♡
